Katarina began ice-skating at age five. It was her chance to demonstrate her skills and get into the Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted children. They was introduced to Jutta Muller in this school. Her breakthrough year was in 1982 when she finished second at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Her elegance and grace caught everybody's eye at that time, and from then onwards she was dominating the sport. Olympic success Katarina Wit won gold in women's ice skating at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. Witt won an even more close competition after four years. The free-skating competition, but earned the gold medal based upon her results in the mandatory figures as well as the short programme. Witt became the first female to win in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following her successful run as an actor. Despite not winning the gold medal, she impressed the crowd. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
